Zapestje in dlan sta ključna dela roke, ki omogočata širok spekter gibanja in natančnost pri opravljanju vsakodnevnih opravil. Zapestje, ki povezuje podlaket z dlanjo, je sestavljeno iz osmih zapestnih kosti, številnih vezi in sklepov, ki delujejo skupaj za zagotavljanje gibljivosti, stabilnosti in moči.
Dlan pa vključuje zapleteno mrežo kosti, mišic, tetiv in živcev, ki omogočajo natančne in usklajene gibe, potrebne za prijemanje, stiskanje in obvladovanje finih motoričnih nalog. Ta anatomska kompleksnost omogoča izjemno funkcionalnost, hkrati pa ju naredi zelo dovzetni za poškodbe in različne težave.
Zaradi intenzivne uporabe zapestja in dlani pri vsakodnevnih dejavnostih, delu in športnih aktivnostih sta ta dela roke pogosto izpostavljena mehanskim obremenitvam, ponavljajočim se gibom in akutnim poškodbam.
